I have not forgotten about this blog or my kit coming out, but my life got unexpectedly busy all of a sudden! I have been thinking of doing it for over a year now, and I am finally taking the leap and going public with my photography business! I have been super busy with the logo design, the packaging, the locations, the website, the everything! It is super exciting for me to be able to finally do something I have always dreamed about.

I still continue to do this blog, that hasnt changed. I love digital design and scrapbooking, it's just with the recent flood of things I have to do in s short time, I have been unable to come back here and offer more goodies! I am working hard on Floral Reef (gymboree inspired) and I am loving all the colors together. Here is a little sneak peek of the kit.

I have been scrapping my 1st daughter's milestone book and as I have been going along, I have been making the pages into templates for you to use for your projects any way you want. It is 12x12 sized and in PSD format. Here is what I did with the layout.

Working on a new kit!

I hope you all loved the latest kit cupcake cutie! I really enjoyed making it and I am now working on Floral Reef!

Here is a page from Gymbohaven where they put together the entire line! I am really excited about this kit, it is totally cute and I just love the colors.

Next up after that will be the CUTE new Owl line that is of the fall homecoming. Since I already have an owl kit, Pretty Day, this will be a sister kit with the Gymboree colors!

Another Freebie this week!

I was making a scrap page for our family book and I decided to make it into a layered PSD file so you can snag it if you wish. Just add your own photos, papers, text and elements and you have yourself a nice page!!

To use-Open the PSD in Photoshop
chose the papers you want and place your paper on top of the "background" layer
and then either select "create a clipping mask" or hit CTRL+ALT+G

Same for photos, pick the one you want and place the picture on TOP of the photo mask layer you wish to use. Resize your pic to fit how you'd like and again, create a clipping mask and your picture will become the same shape.

You do this for all parts of the template. Then you can place elements from your favorite kit!

Here is the one I made, to show an example.

Family emergency

I had the kit all ready to go for you all, but then I received the news that my grandfather had passed. Thank you all for your understanding in the matter that I won't have the kit up until probably next week. Not only have I been a bit distracted by this, we move into our new house on Thursday so I will be without the internet for a few days. Here is a sample of what it looks like applied to a photo!

I use PS CS3, and the way I find easiest to apply masks is go to file/New and make it whatever size you want. Next open your pic and move it to the blank document you just created. Open the layer mask and place it on a layer BELOW the picture you just placed on the new document. Once you have the sizing to your liking, make sure you have your photo layer selected and hit Ctrl+Alt+G and your picture will take the shape of the mask! You can still move the picture around until you flatten the image.

Gingerbread Girl and more

Hello everyone!

Thanks for being patient with me, Sprout has been giving me killer morning sickness that likes to last all day long. Lucky for me, I am almost in the second trimester and I am starting to feel better.

So...that means I am working on 2 new freebie kits for you. They are both Christmas themed, but one is a *Gymboree inspired kit, and the other is all from me. So it will be the traditional greens and reds and Santa and ho ho ho and all that jazz. :)

As far as my *Gymboree kit, I am doing the lovely Gingerbread Girl. I just LOVE that line, it is so precious. I can't wait for the clothes I ordered from that line to come in the mail, I know Sass will just look ridiculously cute in the clothes.....I LOVE Gymboree. Anyway, here are a few examples of the clothes that I am designing my kit with.

I am working on it as fast as I can, so I am not quite sure when I will have it done, but it won't be too much longer! I hope you come back for it!

Hello to all. How crummy do I feel?? Pretty crummy. I apologize to all of those who visited my blog during my long absence, a lot has happened.
-We moved! WOOT! And all of our things came and can you believe it we are still unpacking!
-I went home to MI (drove actually) to see my family. It was nice to see family, but it felt nice to get back home too.
-And the best news of all...we found out we are expecting number 2!!! So since I have been home, I have been battling horrible morning sickness, much worse than anything I experienced the first time around. Then on top of it, Sass and I got hit with high fevers and flu like symptoms!

So mix all those up, and you got yourself a lady who couldn't keep up with her blog and kits..:(

Good news?? I did finish that Gymboree* inspired Halloween Harvest Mini Kit! And I have it available for download tonight! I know its a little late an all, considering, Halloween was a couple weeks ago, but hopefully some of you haven't gotten to scrap that moment yet and you can use my kit for something special!

By mini, I mean its not big, but it is still 300dpi. 12x12 papers and 8x8ish elements.

I made some of the elements myself like the pumpkins, witch, ghost, wagon, candy corn, witch cauldron, and a few other things. Not all, but most of the bigger items is all from me, so you most likely haven't seen a kit like this out there! So I really hope you enjoy. Here is the preview!

Its been a month!! My apologies to everyone! I am still on vacation in Michigan, visiting family, but I dont want to lose too many of my followers, so I am working on a Gymboree* inspired mini kit called Halloween Harvest. Hello everyone!!

Well...the hard part is over. We flew in to Virginia this Tuesday and we just LOVE it here! We dont have a house yet, we are staying in lodging for a while so I cant be back to this 100%, but wanted to let you all know I am still alive!

I will try and have my 1st mini kit out this week, I really think you are going to like it! Its called Little Miss and its pretty pastel colors! Ok...well, I am off to bed, so check back often. I cant wait to get back in the swing of things!

working on something new

First off, all I can say is WOW...I had so many thoughts that my Mighty Dinos kit would be a huge flop, but so far it has been the most downloaded out of all three of my kits! Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on myself eh? And thank you, thank you, thank you, for all of those wonderful comments both on here and 4shared. I read them ALL! Makes me smile and warms my heart, so thank you all SO much!!

I wanted to let you all know I am working on my first mini kit. It should be up within the week, hopefully before our internet gets turned off before the big move! I don't want to give too much away yet, but it has pretty pastel colors and its kind of an outdoorsy theme! I really like the way the papers are turning out and I have been working with some ideas about my elements. I am making some 100% freehand again and its a bit time consuming, but I like that they are a bit different that whats in a lot of the freebie kits.

When I say mini, I just mean the kit isn't as big, but it is still in the same 12x12, 300dpi format. I don't think I will be making tagger kits since you can always make bigger smaller.

Well its midnight here and I hear my bed calling me so I think I will call it a night. Thank you again for visiting my blog, you really have no idea how happy it makes me! The elements are here! Finally I know but thanks for being patient with me. As I said in my last post, there arent many elements to this kit, and for that I apologize, with me being sick then having tons to do with the move, I am sure you all understand. But I did make some made from scratch graphics that I hope you enjoy!

Oh and 1 more thing...as always, please leave a comment if you download! All my kits are for personal use only, and are 12x12 sized. I would love to see what you make with the kits as well and I will feature them here on my blog (once I get that up and running, I already have some awesome pages from one of you!) Hello everyone!

My apologizes on the late arrival of the elements for the Mighty Dinos kit. There aren't a ton of elements for this one, but a lot of personal made items that I created from scratch and that was pretty time consuming!

A little news, we are moving from Hawaii to Virgina in less than 2 weeks! So its been pretty hectic here, cleaning, scheduling things, packing, getting our pup ready to fly and of course still chase after a highly energized toddler all day! So I appreciate your patience with me and getting this kit out! It will most likely be my last one before we depart. On the 31st I wont have access to the internet until....well..thats undetermined actually. We dont fly out until the 7th of September and we have no idea when we will be hooked up and ready to go after that. BUT when I return expect some more kits! I have a few ideas I have been working on and I am sure you'll love it!

I have been working on making some personalized kits from friends of mine that I have and they are turning out to be so cute! They will all be mini kits, so like...5-10 papers, 20 elements or so, still in 12x12 format though.

Well I am unable to get the preview ready for the elements on Mighty Dinos right now as my internet time is limited, BUT I will have them out ready for download later tonight! (my tonight). So come back and look for them! I sure hope you like, its not a lot due to my current circumstances, but I hope what I have is usable! Here is a preview on something I made thats in the kit.

I am still behind though so expect the elements to be a little later. I am really out of my element with boy kits so it sure was a challenge! I have noticed girl kits dominate the scrap world, and since I have a girl and thats what I look for, they are in abundance to me. When I went to scrap a page for a friend of mine who has a boy, I found myself not looking though a sea of boy kits like when I was looking for girl. So I want to make sure I offer up both! I decided to make a paper add on for Happy Rainbow as I wasn't 100% on how the papers turned out. I wanted to make a few more, whole page friendly papers, so I hope you can use these in addition.

I never knew how addicting making kits is! There are 61 elements to this kit. I guess I wasn't satisfied how some of them were turning out so I kept making more and more and more. But I hope you like them...I am hoping it fits a wide range of personal styles so that I reach out to more people. I like to try and make everyone happy!

I tried out this new thing (its like the word art) where it looks like a fabric with frays and haphazard stitching, I made a few elements like that. I really like the way it looks so I hope you do as well. Those things are time consuming let me tell you, but I just think they are so cute. I know I will enjoy using them in my graphics/layouts.

Sorry everyone when I say things like..."Friday ____ will be up". To me, it is still Friday...well for another 50 minutes at least, and I know the time zones can really throw this off. Especially since I dont usually get on until after little one goes to sleep for the night. So thanks for being patient!

Working hard

Hello blog land. I wanted to let you all know that I am really working hard on this kit to have it up and ready to begin downloads on Friday!! I am making more personalized stuff in this one, and as some of you may know, that takes some time! But I am excited about how it is turning out and I sure hope you all enjoy it.

Today has been a calm day for the most part. I suppose as calm as it can be with a toddler who has hit the terrible two stage early, but she brings such joy to my life. So I thought I would put up a pic of my beautiful little girl. Something cute to look at in between downloading cute kits!

So Felicia "hit" us today. It was barely a thing by time it came to the islands. We had a little bit of rain, seems no more than our usual rain spells we get here. I even saw beautiful blue skies here today. So thankfully she died down and dissipated because I couldn't image little ol us being hit with a category 4 hurricane which she peaked at earlier last week. *shudders*

Ok...enough rambling...off to finish up the kit!

WOAH it has been a day! I was so excited to work on my first real kit that I actually spent the whole day on it, I just kept adding things. This is a pretty big kit, it has 51 element, 16 papers and I even threw in some word art!

Again, (I wrote it in a different post), but this kit is inspired by the Ice Cream Social Gymboree clothing line that came out February 2008. I loved that idea so much, my next several kits will be designed around their clothing line. I sure hope you enjoy this kit as much as I am going to. I will post scrap pages once I get a chance...I am seriously exhausted now as its almost 3am my time and just finished this up.

Ok....I came up with an awesome kit for the next freebie. I absolutely LOVE Gymboree lines...they are always so cute and the colors are always right on. SO, I decided to makes some kits that go along with my fav clothing lines!!! The first kit is called Ice Cream Social and I will have the papers up later tonight (Hawaii time).

But here is a what my kit is inspired by!and my daughter wearing a couple outfits from this line. Anyway, I really hope you all will like this kit as I do and be able to use it. It will have papers and elements. Maybe even some Alpha. Please come back soon to get the link.

I completed my 1st freebie kit. Well...not sure if it is fair to call it a kit as its just elements, but I still hope you can use it just the same!

This is called Bedazzled. Its little doodle type elements with a jeweled look to them. I hope you can find ways to accent your pages or whatever with these. I would sure love to see what you did with them as well!

My First Post!

HELLO blog land!

I am really excited to finally have a digital scapbook site up of my own! I sure hope you enjoy and come back often. This is a work in progress at the moment though so please be patient!

A little about me...I am a 28 year old, stay at home mom and amateur photographer. I will eventually have a link on here to go to my photography blog as well.

I was in the United States active Army for 8 years as a JAG Corps paralegal, and I really loved my job. When I learned that I was expecting, my husband and I decided that it was the best choice for me to be honorably discharged to stay home and raise our daughter. My Husband is also in the military and so I still get to live the life I love, just I get to be with my daughter all day and get more free time to do what I love. Which is digital graphics/scrapbooking and Photography.

I also make invitations, announcements and virtually anything actually. I love a challenge and I am always looking for ways to improve and take it to the next level.

I have been fascinated by the digital scrapbook scene now for a while and I just now decided to dabble in making my own kits, hoping to improve and get much better. I am hoping though, even though my designs aren't elaborate, that people will be able to use them just the same.

Adding Elements

Now the way you start to put your page together will become your personal preference. Some like to add the photos and work around them, others like to design the page and add the photos last. It is truly up to you and your design style. For this demonstration I will first show you how to add elements first.

STEP 1

Go to FILE/OPEN and go to your folder you have your elements in. Pick out an element you like. I chose the frame.

You will now have the element window open in your program. Grab and drop onto your paper the same way you added the paper to your document. Again, Photoshop has the drag and drop option, your program may or may not be the same. Whichever way you need to get your frame onto your paper, do it now.

To add other elements, you do the same thing and you can arrange them any way that is pleasing to you.

I downloaded a kit, now what?

Congratulations! You are now well on your way to creating a fabulous scrap page that your family can treasure for a life time!

So you found a kit that you like, you downloaded it, so now how do you start using them?

Most kits will be in a .zip file. (it will look like a yellow folder with a zipper on it(PC users, I am unsure about MAC users)) A zip file format is a data compression and archive format and contains one or more files that have been compressed to reduce file size, or stored as-is.

To open a zip file, you will need some way to unzip your file, such as Winzip which that basic version is free that you can download. GET IT HERE Some Operating Systems have it already and all you have to do is right click on your file and "extract" it to a certain location. Either way, that is what you need to do to get access to your kits!

I recommend having a folder for all your scrapbooking kits to be extracted to. That way you have everything you need in one area. I also recommend keeping your kits together (as in, don't separate ALL papers from several kits in one folder and all elements from multiple kits in others) as many designers have a TOU (terms of use) document for their kit. You are bound to the limitations of use by the designers of that kit, and keeping the kits together, ensures you abide by the designers TOU).

So theoretically, all your kits should now be unzipped and placed in a specific area you can easily access.

What are kits and where do I get them?

Digital kits, also know as digital embellishments, elements and papers, are what is used for digital scrapping. Much like its paper counterpart, they are what you will use to make your scrap pages your own.

You can buy kits from several stores/blogs or even find free kits by searching online. Whatever your taste or style, you will be able to find what you are looking for.

Most digital kits, unless labeled "Tagger sized" are full 12x12 sized papers with the resolution of 300dpi. The embellishment/elements will be of various sizes, though they can be sized to your project needs.

Getting the right size

Before we start, the screen shots below are from the program Adobe Photoshop CS3. Your program, if not CS3, will vary, but the concept will be the same. For this tutorial, I will be using the kit Festival by Shabby Princess, go there to download their FREE kit if you would like.

Ok, getting started, how to create a specific size page. You can create your page to be whatever size you would like. Most digital kits (unless labeled "tagger") will usually be 12x12 sized and at 300dpi for optimal printing. The great thing about digital is you can size the paper and elements to your desired size. Rule of thumb though, its ok to size down to keep resolution high for printing, sizing bigger may result in undesirable printing results.

STEP 1

Ok! So first you want to open up your work space, you will make this the size you want your page. Popular choices are 12x12, 10x10 and 8x8 for traditional scrapbook pages, though you can make any size you would like. For my tutorial, I will be opening up a 12x12 page.

Depending on your program, you will go up top to your menus under FILE, choose NEW.

Now.....some will say you can just open up your digital paper and use that, but I always like to make a separate page as not to accidentally save over the original paper file. But you can also just use your paper template. In this case, you'd just go to FILE/OPEN and then find where your digital paper is located.

STEP 2

Now that you have your workstation open, choose the paper you would like to be your BACKGROUND.

FILE/OPEN/(your kit folder)

STEP 3

So now you should have 2 documents open. The first is your document you made, and the second is the paper. I sized the windows small and side by side for viewing purposes.

Move the paper you opened to your document you created in the beginning, then CLOSE out the kit paper file (not your working document which will now have the paper on it).

So now you should have ONE document open, your document you made with the paper now fitted on it perfectly. You will now notice your paper in your layer pallet.

BENEFITS OF DIGITAL

1. The cost! Paper scrapbooks are very pleasing to look at and creative fun, but as you all know, it is not a cheap hobby. You buy items and you get to use them one time....this is not the case with digital. When you buy a kit (or often times find free ones) you can use them as many times as you want all for one price!

2. The freedom of changing things if you change your mind or "mess up". You can move elements, change paper, pictures anything you want as often as you want before you print. Nothing gets ruined in the process, just click undo.

3. No cutting of irreplaceable pictures. Ever want to scrap old photographs from your great grandparents but afraid of cutting them or accidentally ruining them? With digital, you can use a scanned copy and your picture stays in its original shape.

4. Complete creative freedom. Have you ever looked for a specific color embellishment or paper and just couldn't find it? Or you found a paper that would be perfect, but it wasn't the right color? With digital scrapbooking, you can color, resize and customize you elements/papers JUST the way you need them. Best part, the sky is the limit when it comes to what you can have on your pages!

5. Font selection. Is your handwriting not the best? (like mine), you can download fonts (most free) from various sites that look like it was handwritten for journaling. You can type, delete, retype as much as you need and see it on your page before committing and can easily be changed later without having to redo the entire page!

6. Multiple pages. Ever made a page that you would like to put in more than one book? Or would like to give a page away as a present? Well, instead of doing the same page all over again, you can print multiple pages!

There of course is nothing wrong with paper...some people will prefer paper over digital or digital over paper. The choice is yours...but if you are looking for help going digital, I made up some tutorials for you to get started!

What is digital scrapbooking?

Digital scrapbooking, also referred to as digi-scrapping, is essentially using computer software to create your layouts versus manually with physical objects.

Digital scrapbooking allows you to create your memory pages by using digital graphics instead of paper products. You can find digital kits all around the internet, or you can create your own embellishments for a truly unique page!

What software do I need?

Most digital kits use .PNG files and JPEG files, so you should choose a program that will support those two file types. Essentially, you can use any software that allows you to work with layered objects, and supports the PNG file format.

You need to work in "layers" when making your scrap pages, so ensure the program you use supports layers.

Here are a couple programs you can use for digital scrapbooking.

Adobe Photoshop-A popular but expensive editing software

Adobe Elements-A cheaper software that does a lot of what Photoshop does. In fact, for digital scrapbooking, this is all you need.

Paint Shop Pro-This program focuses on digital design more than editing photos. Will also allow you to create beautiful pages.

GIMP-A photo editing software that has been compared to Photoshop and the best part? It's FREE. This program supports layers and can open PNG and JPEG files.

This of course does not complete the list of programs you can use, but it will help to get you started. The programs I listed offer a 30 day trial so you can see if the program is right for you before buying.
